The SCGS Benaroya Concert Series opens with
Paul Galbraith, whose ground-breaking playing style and sensitive
musicality have held audiences spellbound and brought world-wide acclaim.
His 1998 Delos recording of his transcription of Bach's complete works for solo
violin received superlative critical reviews, and was chosen as one of the two
best classical CDs of 1998 by Gramophone. Galbraith plays a custom
designed 8-string guitar designed by himself and the late British luthier David
Rubio. The guitar is supported by a metal endpin which rests on a wooden,
acoustically resonant box. The increased range has enabled Mr. Galbraith
to transcribe works of composers not normally associated with the guitar,
including Haydn, Schubert and Brahms.

"The Seattle Classic Guitar Society's series of recitals at Benaroya Hall is one of the great, relatively undiscovered delights of Seattle's classical-music season. The performers are top-notch, and the venue, Benaroya's Nordstrom Recital Hall, has acoustics that are matched perfectly to the intimate demands of the guitar." The Seattle Times, November 2000
