Canadian Guitar Trio: Harold Micay, Hanh Nguyen and Zach Westfall, based in Vancouver B.C., have been astounding audiences in Canada and the United States with their virtuosity and widely ranging styles. They play everything from Bach to tango, Mozart to flamenco. In 1998 the Trio released its first CD, La Luna, on Skylark Records. The trio is currently working on two new CDs. Daniel Bolshoy
has been called 'a rising star' by the Halifax Herald. He started studying music at the Academy of Arts and Science in Jerusalem, and continued at the Arts Canterbury High School in Ottawa. Daniel graduated from the University of Denver with Bachelor and Master of Music Performance degrees (both Magna cum Laude) under Ricardo Iznaola. Daniel is currently a Graduate Teaching Assistant and lecturer on guitar history and classical guitar at Universtiy of Arizona Shcool of Music. Mr. Bolshoy has performed in Canada, Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Israel and the USA. He has won top prizes in The Canadian Music Competition (1996), Ben Steinberg Music Competition (Toronto, 1996), Music Teachers National Association of Collegiate Artists Competition (Washington DC, 2001) as well as the second prize in the Portland International Guitar Competition (2001). a Seattle native, has performed recitals and chamber music on both East and West coasts. He was the 1st prize winner at the 2002 Northwest Guitar Festival Competition, a prize winner in the 1999 Crane New Music Performance Competition under the adjudication of George Crumb, and winner of the Yale University School of Music 2001 Eliot Fisk prize as an 'outstanding graduate in guitar.' Daniel earned a Master of Music degree at Yale under Benjamin Verdery, and Cornish College of the Arts, where he earned a Bachelor of Muisc degree under Steven Novacek. Daniel has also studied at Aspen Music School with Sharon Isbin, and perforemd in master classes for Oscar Ghiglia, Paul O'Dette, David Russel, Scott Tennant and Fabio Zanon. Currently Daniel Corr is Professor Guitar at Gateway Community College in New Haven, Connecticut. The Duo, Eric Benzant-Feldra, and Michael Philip Kudirka first crossed paths while attending the Thornton School of Music at Universtiy of Southern California. Under their teacher, William Kanengiser of the LAGQ, Eric and Michael began performing as a duo in 1997. In the 10th Annual Portland Guitar Competition, they too, first and second place respectively! This yielded an invitation to perform the following year. James McQuillan of the The Oregonian said that 'the two make excellent duo partners, tight and responsive, and their overview of several centuries of lute and guitar pieces was a thrill.' The Duo strongly supports new music, associating closely with composers including Bryan Johanson, Dusan Bogdanovic, and Jeffrey Holmes. They have performed extensively on the West Coast, in Chicago, and Osaka Japan. The Duo has beeen accepted as Tourin Artists by the California Arts Council, beginning in summer 2003. Apostolos Paraskevas
a native of Volos, Greece, is one of the most innovative and respected guitarist/composers working today. Currently an Assitant Professor at Berkley College of Music in Boston, Apostolos earned his doctorate in composition from Boston University. In 1995 he made his New York debut performing contemporary guitar music at Carnegie Hall, by invitation from the Onassis Center. That year he also premiered his guitar concerto Phygein Adynaton at Athens Concert Hall. His works and performances have been broadcast on WGBH Bostons's Morning Pro Musica, NPR's New York Performance Today, as well as National Radio in Greece, Moscow, Cuba, Denmark and Hungary. He has participated as teacher, composer, and performer at the Internatioinal Festival of Volos, Greece, Bath International Festival, England, International Guitar Festival, Cuba, Festival of Eztergom, Hungary, 8th Guitar Symposium of Iserlohn, Germany, 2001 GFA International Convention, USA, Music Festival of Varadero, CUba and the LiGiTa Music Festival, Leichtenstein. Fanfare magazine described his debut recording on the Centaru label, Visions of Azure as a 'wonderful and essential guitar CD.'
