Northwest Guitar Festival
April 5-7, 2001
Victoria, BC



The 2001 Northwest Guitar Festival will be held at the Victoria Conservatory of Music in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, between April 5-7, 2001. Morning, afternoon, and evening concerts, lectures, and the Northwest Guitar Competition will round out an exciting three days of guitar activity.  Artists from the Northwest and guest artists include James Reid, (Moscow, Idaho), Harold Micay (Vancouver), Douglas Hensley, (Victoria), Michael Nicolella, (Seattle), Krishna Sol (Mexico City), Nova Albion (with Alexander Dunn, nineteenth century guitar, Victoria), Randy Pile (San Diego), and Ricardo Cobo (Las Vegas).The Northwest Competition will draw from the finest young players in the US Northwest and western Canada. Lecture topics on "Beethoven and the Guitar" and "The Electric Guitar in Contemporary Classical Music" will be presented; masterclasses with Nicolella, Pile, and Cobo are offered to advanced players. The participation fee of $200 Canadian or $140 USD entitles registered participants access to all events. (Please note that competitors are obliged to include the competition fee of $40 Canadian or $30 USD in addition to the regular fee.) US participants please send a money order or cashiers cheque made out to "Victoria Guitar Society", Canadian participants may send a personal cheque. Evening concerts and the competition finals are open to the public; tickets will be available at the door for each event.

In order to guarantee your single or double room at $70.00Cnd per night (a third person may be added for an additional $10.00), reservations should be placed prior to February 27, 2001; reservations at the special rate will be available on a first come first serve basis after that date.
